What is a birth chart?

A birth chart, also called a natal chart, is a diagram astrologers use to represent the positions of the Sun, Moon and planets for a particular time and place. In astrological practice, those placements are then interpreted through signs, houses and angular relationships called aspects.

What information is usually needed?

Most chart calculations use a birth date, birth time and birth location. An accurate birth time matters especially for the Ascendant (Rising sign) and house placements. If you do not know your exact birth time, some chart elements can still be calculated, but house-based interpretations may be less certain.
